TripMate

Android Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TripMate (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the TripMate Android app (app.tripmate.android). Effective date: 24 September 2026.

This page is informational and is not legal advice.

Overview

TripMate for Android has no user accounts, no sign-in, no ads, and no analytics SDKs. Your personal data stays on your device.

Information stored on your device

The following data is stored locally on your Android device:

  • Saved trips
  • Trip history and statistics
  • Preferences
  • Active-trip state
  • Cached timetables and routes
  • Any custom alarm sound you record

None of this is uploaded to a TripMate account or cloud profile.

Location

TripMate requests precise and approximate location while the app is in use. Location is used to show your position on the map and, during a trip you start yourself, to track your progress toward your stop.

Active-trip tracking runs as a foreground service with a visible, ongoing notification. TripMate does not request background location.

Your coordinates are not transmitted to TripMate's servers. Trip requests use bundled station coordinates, not your device position. You can deny or later revoke location permission in Android Settings.

Microphone

TripMate uses the microphone only if you tap Record in Settings → Alarm Sound to create a custom trip-alarm sound. The recording is stored on your device only and is never uploaded or shared.

Notifications

Trip alarms and active-trip progress notifications are generated on your device. TripMate does not use a push-notification service.

Transit data (Transport for NSW)

TripMate requests trip plans, live departures, disruptions, and car-park data through TripMate's transit proxy (api.tripmateapp.app), which forwards the requests to the Transport for NSW Open Data APIs. The app downloads timetable files from cdn.tripmateapp.app.

These requests contain station or stop identifiers and travel times, not your name or device location. How TfNSW processes Open Data requests is governed by Transport for NSW's own terms and privacy practices.

Maps (Google Maps SDK for Android)

Maps in TripMate are displayed with Google Maps. The Google Maps SDK for Android automatically collects request and device metadata (such as OS version and device model), crash stack traces, IP address, a pseudonymous Maps SDK identifier, and map interaction events such as panning and zooming.

Google uses this data to maintain and improve its services, under the Google Privacy Policy. See Google's Maps SDK for Android data disclosure for details.

Support

“Report a bug” opens your own email app with a pre-filled message. Only what you choose to send reaches us.

Your controls

In TripMate → Settings → Delete User Data you can remove saved trips, history, preferences, active-trip state, and caches from your device. Timetable data that can be downloaded again may be kept, because it is not personal data.

You can manage location, microphone, and notification permissions in Android Settings at any time. Uninstalling TripMate removes all local data from that device.

Children

TripMate is not directed at children under 13.

Sharing and third parties

TripMate does not sell your personal information and does not share it beyond the services described above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if a future version introduces accounts or advertising. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of TripMate after an update means you accept the revised policy.
